Personally speaking, fall is my favorite season. Autumn leaves, cups of hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream, gingerbread, pumpkin loafs, crisp air, and maple syrup with the one you love conjure images of romance for me.
Fall is a great time to get married and lends itself to so many great ideas for your wedding ceremony and reception. Here are ten things you could do for a fall wedding:
- Decorations: grapevines (perfect for a fall wine themed wedding), acorns, pumpkins, autumn leaves (scattered on tables or runners), corn, wheat, cornucopias, apples, cranberries, dark velvet fabrics, pinecones (could make a nice centerpiece), and ornamental berries are ways to give your wedding that fall flavor.
- Wedding favors: use canning jars filled with something special for an autumn touch, caramel apples, dark chocolate, coffee beans, or even cinnamon scented pinecones in small baskets or containers tied with a red ribbon.
- Fall colors that you can use for bridesmaid dresses and decorations: orange, brown, red, yellow, deep purple, gold, and bronze.
- Autumn catering: incorporate fall vegetables like corn, carrots, and onions. Pumpkins, apple cider, eggplant, roasted turkey, squash, and potatoes are also great options. Think Thanksgiving dinner complete with mashed potatoes and gravy.
- Location: outdoor weddings set amidst colorful trees or golden grass can make for gorgeous backdrop for your pictures. A reception place with a fireplace would be the perfect touch for autumn ambiance.
- Vintage: I think vintage goes great with a fall wedding and is easier to incorporate than you think. Pick up old picture frames, kerosene lamps, and vintage jewelry for the vintage feel. Another great touch is to get a vintage stole to keep you warm in the cool evenings of fall. I recommend seeing if there is something you could borrow from a grandmother or even your parents to give your wedding that vintage flair.
- Flowers: sunflowers, terra kotta (burnt orange rose), seed pods, and more. There are a lot of options and combinations that will go well with your color theme.
- Pictures: I’ve seen some darling wedding pictures in front of old schoolhouses, barns, in fields of dry grass, and so forth. The colors of fall make for vibrant pictures.
- Invitations: pressed leaves and recycled paper can mark the beginning of your fall wedding festivities.
- Time: late September, October, and even November depending on where you live and weather.
